What do I want my wedding day to feel like?

Elegant and timeless?
Intimate and relaxed?
The venue should support the feeling, not fight it.
Lighting affects mood more than décor. Architecture influences your portraits more than centerpieces. The space itself sets the tone long before flowers are delivered.
Once you know the feeling you want, you can evaluate venues more clearly.
But here is where many couples get stuck.
Before You Decide Anything, Tour Three Very Different Venues
Most couples start with one question:
What can we afford?
Budget absolutely matters. But if you start there, you might accidentally choose from limitation instead of clarity.
Instead, I encourage my couples to tour three very different venues:
• One slightly above your budget
• One comfortably within your budget
• One below your budget
Before you look at numbers, packages, or what is included, ask yourself one simple question:
How did each one feel?
The Out of Budget Venue
It probably felt luxurious. Spacious. Elevated. Effortless.
But pause there.
Did it feel like you, or did it feel like someone else’s Pinterest board?
Sometimes touring a higher-end venue clarifies your true taste. Other times it confirms that you do not need that level of grandeur to feel fulfilled.
The goal is not to overspend. The goal is clarity.
The Within Budget Venue
This is often where most couples land.
But here is the real question:
Does this venue already feel like your vision?
Or will it require significant upgrades to get there?
If you are already planning to add:
• Heavy florals
• Extra rentals
• Specialty lighting
• Additional décor installations
It may not actually be the budget-friendly choice it appears to be.
Sometimes the middle option quietly becomes the most expensive once you start dressing it up to match your dream.
The Below Budget Venue
These venues are often efficient, all-inclusive, and simple.
And I understand the appeal. Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, and convenience feels safe.
But here is something I have learned after photographing many wedding days.
Most all-inclusive venues include four to five hours of wedding photography.
For most wedding timelines, that is not enough time for the day to breathe.
When we compress a full wedding into a shorter coverage window:
• Portraits feel rushed
• Family photos feel stressful
• Reception moments feel shortened
• The day moves quickly instead of feeling full
I have seen couples invest in convenience upfront only to feel pressure later when there is not enough time to truly enjoy the moments they were most excited about.
Step Three: Think Beyond the Aesthetic
When touring a Florida wedding venue, consider:
• What is the rain backup plan?
• What direction does the ceremony face at sunset?
• How many weddings happen there in one day?
• What time does music have to end?
• Is there natural light indoors for portraits?
• Is there shade for guests during outdoor ceremonies?
These details do not show up in Instagram photos, but they absolutely shape your experience.
The Real Question Is Not What Is Cheapest
It is this:
Will I love this venue as it is?
If you do not love it, you may overspend trying to elevate it.
If the timeline is tight, you may feel rushed even in a beautiful space.
Your venue sets the tone for everything. Your photography, your guest flow, your stress level, and the way the day unfolds.
Choose from clarity. Not pressure. Not fear. Not just numbers.
